An Adventure in Gin – the final chapter

My fondness for gin led me on a quest that finally ended in Las Vegas. I had been searching for a delicious, refreshing yet not syrupy sweet gin based cocktail for quite some time. Of course, Gin and Tonic stands out along with the Martini as the most well-known gin based drinks. Neither really works for me because tonic water is syrupy and a traditional martini is plain.

Recipe for an AperiteroA few years ago, we were treated to a wonderful tour of Las Vegas by my friend Cinnamon. No surprise, we loved our evening’s experience along the strip; to complete it, we decided to have just one more for the road in Bellagio’s. The extensive cocktail list included an Aperitiro. This beautiful cocktail contained dry gin mixed with pineapple juice, grapefruit juice, and Aperol. The bartender shared the recipe with us. It was still a bit too sweet, but I’ll tell you more about that tomorrow.

The Secret brought to Ireland

Once back home in Ireland, we found Plymouth gin and Campari which is similar to Aperol but more readily available. I’ve made no other adjustments to this cocktail, except to change its strange medicinal sounding name.
